Post Tetsurugi Tengen Sy Part 1 and 2

Just a short story about one of my charas i have in the game. I have others(My necro and runner) on paper, and ill post them when i get around to typing them all up. I just finished typing part one up, so here it is. Ill post the more eventful part 2 later, i guess

“Flick a finger, kill a beast. Clap your hands, kill thousands.”
-Tetsurugi Tengen Sy

Rurik exited the flap of his makeshift tent and moved toward the massive fire of burning charr corpses where everyone had gathered, singing and rejoicing about their successful raid of the enemy encampment. Devona saw his approach first and moved to greet him happily, but when she got close enough to see the sad expression on his face, her first words were “What troubles you, my prince? Our raid was without loss because of your skillful tactics. These char will rue the day they went against Ascalon. The king will be pleased.” Rurik blinked. “My father is the least of my contemplations. Gather our troops, I have an announcement.” Devna saluted and walked away to carry out her orders.
All gathered around Rurik. He stepped onto a nearby tree stump and looked them over. Warriors, mages, monks, necromancers, rangers, mesmers...the bravest men and women in all of Ascalon that volunteered to join his special operations Vannguard task force. The best in Ascalon, and still the charr creep slowly southernward toward the city. What were they doing wrong? What could be done? Then it hit him.
“My Faithful Vanguard, we have again saved ascalon form an iminent threat to her safety, and it is a time to rejoice”. The crowd broke out into a roar of cheers before his hand was held up to silence them. “...But even though our kills were in the hundreds, I fear that this was not the charr invasion platoon we set out to find”. The laughter and happynedd abruptly stopped as all eyes turned to Rurik. He gestured to the fire. “Look at the bodies. These charr are too young to know of much battle. Their tactics in combat were nonexisting, and I found no designated leader to slay. If this were truely and invasion force, they would have been veterans, and many of us would have died today.” The cold silence pierced the wind for what seemed to be ages. Finally, a warrior spoke. “What do you suppose we do now, my prince?” Rurik thought for a moment. “This must be a decoy force to trick us before the real invasion force comes. We must sent out scouts to find the true enemy. Untill they report back, we will fortify this area.” Immediately, swords, bows, and staffs raised to the air as their owners signaled to be chosen to be in the scouting squad, but Rurik already had a set few in mind.
The best fighters he had were Devona, Cynn, Aidan, and Mhenlo. Together, they had completed any task they were given, and he knew they would die before failing him. He was about to call they forth when he noticed a shadow behind a large oak tree in the back of the crowd. He signaled to the for by hand instead and gestured for them to follow him as he dropped from the stump and moved toward the tree.
Everyone went back to what they were previously doing in a less cheerful mood as Aidan knocked an arrow in his bow and Devona heaved her war hammer off her shoulder. They approached the oak silently from both sides, and on Ruricks command, simultaneously sprung out to view the opposite side.
There, among the small mushrooms and moss, a man sat calmly, his back resting on the oak. In his left hand was a book, while his right was pointed upward, balancing a small orb of fire above his index finger. He either didn’t notice him or didn’t care for their presence, because he payed no attention to them. He finally glanced at them, extinguished his ember in thin air, and got up.

His eyes turned to Rurik. “Hard to read if you don’t have a lit when it gets dark.” Rurik looked him over. Ruby eyes with matching hair and a smoothly shaven beard. The mans face looked like he had the weight of the world on his mind, and he was perpetually angry at something. He cleared his mind and spoke up. “...And you are?”. “Tetsurugi Tengen Sy, at your service. The king appointed me to the vanguard only a day ago”. Rurik had never known his father to recruit for the Vanguard. He wondered what this man did to be positioned here, but his thoughts were interrupted as Tetsusugi continued. “I arrived here late. By the time I came, the battle was over. I see you are all fine. That’s good. I heard your speech though, and you seem to be in quite the predicament. To earn my place, I insist on helping to search for this veteran charr invasion force.”
To date, that was the longest anyone had seen Cynn not insult someone in a conversation, but all good things come to an end, and she finally spoke up. “Hmph. We already HAVE an elementalist we don’t need YOUR help”. As always, Mhenlo had to sugar-coat her words. “Cynn! Sorry, Tetsurugi. Cynn is quite the...ambitious one. We would love for you to join us if the prince says it to be so”.Rurik had spent the conversation time to look at Tetsurugi’s clothing. Gloves, boots, leggings, robe..they didnt match. All from different elemental professions. Charred in some areas and heavily scuffed in others, this man had been places. What was he doing here?
By the time all eyes had turned to him once again, he immediately said “Yes, you will accompany them. You may all leave when your prepared. May balthazar give you the strength to succeed.” As he walked off, Cynn looked at the new member she was babysitting. “Get in my way and ill burn you, recruit”. He looked at her. “Call me Tets”. She rolled her eyes and walked into the woods. “You guys coming or not? Lets get this over with before the new one sets a tree on fire accidentally”. They all silently followed her into the darkness.
